22. HK Fun Fact #22

22. “The Rainforest Effect”- The weather in HK suffers from a unique phenomenon that I like to call “the rainforest effect.” Basically, HK has a lot of really tall buildings (more skyscrapers than New York City) and all of these tall buildings block out the sun to the ground, like the canopy of the rainforest prevents the sun and rain from reaching the ground. So the streets remain shady and thus much cooler in the winter than areas in sun.¬†Unfortunately, “the rainforest effect” in the summer means that the humidity just gets trapped between the building making it more humid on the ground.
