18. The storm warning system. As a result of several natural disasters in the late 1970’s and 1980’s, the HK government developed a warning system to alert citizens of changing weather conditions. There is a warning system for typhoons and severe rain storms. For typhoons, storms that might hit HK receive a rating as follows: signal 1, 3, 8, 9 or 10. A typhoon 8 and above automatically cancels schools, closes offices and businesses. Rain storms will receive a rating of Amber, Red or Black. The rating depends on how many much water will fall per hour. As with a signal 8 typhoon, a black rain storm shuts down the city.
I have experienced one Black rainstorm, several Amber storms and one typhoon signal 8. My personal question is what happened to typhoon signal 2, and 4-7??
